The Palestinian ministry of education said on Thursday that there are more than 36 Palestinian schools threatened with demolitions six of them in Occupied Jerusalem because of their location near illegal Jewish settlements.
Spokesman for the ministry Sadeq al-Khadouri said that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) stepped up recently the issuance of demolition notices against Palestinian schools in the occupied territories.
Khadouri described Israel’s intents to raze these Palestinian schools as “part of an ongoing policy targeting the Palestinian educational sector in general especially in Masafer Yatta and Jerusalem province” and “part of its plan to drive the local residents out of their areas.”
The IOA carries its demolition and land grab operations in the West Bank and Jerusalem under different pretexts including lack of permits.
Last Thursday the IOA also revoked the licenses of six Palestinian schools in east Jerusalem in order to force their administrations to adopt Israeli curriculums.
