PA forces arrest political activist from family house

Wednesday 1-December-2021

The PA security forces arrested on Tuesday evening the ex-prisoner and political activist Hamza Jibril Al-Jiawi after violently storming his family home in the town of Ithna in al-Khalil.

Local sources reported that a joint force of the PA forces arrested Al-Jiawi after surrounding and violently storming his family home.

The PA forces threatened to open fire and explode the home’s door the sources added.

Al-Jiawi family was subjected to frequent political arrests since 2019. Five members of the same family were detained in PA detention centers for their political affiliation.

In 2017 Hamza Al-Jiawi was detained during a PA crackdown campaign against Hamas’s supporters in the West Bank.

Meanwhile a local human rights group condemned the PA escalated political arrests and human rights violations in the West Bank.

The Human Rights Monitor documented the arrest of 20 political activists over the past week including teachers students and academics.

The UN and the EU have recently expressed concern over the increase in politically motivated arrests by the Palestinian Authority over the past few months.

“Violence against peaceful human rights defenders activists and protesters is unacceptable” the EU said.
