Thursday 15-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The PA ministry of refugees’ affairs has called on PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to facilitate the return of the Palestinian refugees from Iraq to the PA-run lands.

Atef Odwan the refugees’ affairs minister said in a message addressed to Abbas on Wednesday that both the PA presidency and government should cooperate to facilitate the return of those refugees to end their daily suffering at the hands of armed militias.

The minister said that his government decided in its latest session to facilitate entry of those refugees on condition that the step would not deprive them of their right of return to their original hometowns in Palestine.

The message asked the PA chief to instruct the negotiations department into holding necessary contacts with the Israelis in order to allow the return of those refugees whose tragedy escalate on daily basis. He explained that scores of them were killed and hundreds were injured or arrested while the whole lot of them is under daily threats to leave their places of residence.

Odwan also urged the Iraqi government to provide protection for those refugees and called on the Arab League to assume its role in alleviating their suffering.

He affirmed that Palestinians in Iraq are guests and are not part of the sectarian strife or violence in that American occupied Arab country.
