PCHR: IOF uses lethal force against peaceful protests

Wednesday 17-January-2018

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) on Tuesday said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) use lethal force against the Palestinian civilians participating in peaceful protests.

The Center said in a report that the IOF on Monday killed a Palestinian youth in Jayyous village northeast of Qalqilya adding that this crime falls in line with the Israeli escalation waged against the Palestinians following the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

It stressed that this crime and the recent killings committed by the IOF soldiers further prove that the latter intend to kill as many Palestinian demonstrators as possible.

Based on the PCHR documentation the Israeli forces have intensified the use of live ammunition against civilians although the unarmed protesters do not pose any threat or danger to the lives of the Israeli soldiers.

The PCHR condemned the Israeli use of excessive and lethal force against the Palestinian protesters and affirmed that it is the result of the green light given by the US to Israel following the Jerusalem move which makes the US a partner in these crimes.

The Palestinian Center called on the international community and UN organizations to intervene to stop the Israeli escalating crimes and violations and provide international protection for Palestinians in the occupied territories.

The PCHR also reiterates its call on the high contracting parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their obligations under Article 1; i.e. to respect and ensure respect for the Convention in all circumstances.

It also asked them to comply with their obligations under Article 146 which provides for prosecuting the persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention. These breaches are considered war crimes under Article 147 of the same Convention and Protocol (I) additional to the Geneva Conventions.
