PCHR calls for revoking decision dissolving charities

Thursday 30-August-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Palestinian center for human rights has called on the illegitimate Salam Fayyad government to revoke its decision disbanding 103 charities because it would mean severing humanitarian and relief assistance to thousands of Palestinian families.

The PCHR condemned the decision which was based on alleged legal administrative or financial violations in a press release on Wednesday describing it as “very serious”.

It affirmed that formation of charitable societies is a basic human right and guaranteed by the Palestinian basic law and noted that Fayyad’s decision violated the charitable societies’ law which stipulates that a violating charity must be warned in writing and given a period of time to amend its conditions.
