PCHR condemns Israel’s use of lethal force against Gazan children

Monday 19-February-2018

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) on Sunday condemned the new Israeli crime in Gaza in which two Palestinian children were killed and two others were wounded east of Rafah city in the northern Gaza Strip.

The PCHR said in a statement that the Israeli occupation forces on Saturday killed two children and injured two others after firing several artillery shells at them near the border fence east of Rafah despite the fact that they were only unarmed civilians who did not pose any threat to the soldiers.

On Sunday morning the Palestinian Red Crescent Society crews managed to access the area and transfer the bodies of Salem Sabbah 17 and Abdullah Irmeilat 15. As it turned out they bled to death after being hit with shrapnel in different parts of their bodies according to the PCHR.

The Center denounced this crime which further proves that the Israeli occupation forces continue to use lethal force against Palestinian civilians to intentionally kill them even if they do not carry out any act that would endanger the life of Israeli soldiers.

According to the PCHR investigations shrapnel of artillery shells and live bullets hit the four children in various parts of their bodies. Two of them were immediately transferred to Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah city as they ran to the west until medical crews evacuated them. The doctors described their condition as moderate but the crews could not reach the other two children as it was very late and increasingly dangerous.

The PCHR pointed out that the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation in the Gaza Strip has frustrated youths making them think of sneaking into Israel (1948 occupied Palestine) to find jobs.

This fact it stressed requires everyone to shoulder their responsibilities to end this situation resulting from the tightened Israeli blockade for over 11 years in addition to the sanctions imposed on Gaza.
