DAMASCUS (PIC)– The PFLP and the Islamic Jihad Movement on Saturday announced their rejection of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’s call for sending international forces to the Gaza Strip to supervise what he called early general elections.
Dr. Maher Al-Taher the PFLP politburo member told PIC on Saturday that the Front rejects Abbas’s call because it would open the doors wide open before foreign interventions.
Taher said that priority at the present time should be given to holding a comprehensive national dialogue that would group all factions to deal with the internal crisis.
For his part Khaled Al-Batesh one of the Islamic Jihad Movement’s leaders in the Gaza Strip said in a press release on Saturday that his Movement refused Abbas’s call under any pretext.
He said that presence of international forces in Gaza would “add oil to the fire of internal strife” and asked Abbas to re-consider his call to preserve national unity and resistance.
Batesh urged the Arab and Islamic countries to protect and defend the Palestinian people instead of the international troops that would only protect Israel’s security.
