The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) announced on Sunday evening suspending its participation in the local elections of the West Bank.
The PFLP announced its new position regarding the election after the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces assaulted Palestinian protesters including the father of martyr Basel al-Araj in Ramallah.
Khalida Jarrar the PFLP politburo member said in a statement that the PFLP will continue to protest until all those who attacked the protesters and Araj’s father are punished adding that the suppression policy pursued by the PA against Palestinians must be stopped.
In a statement published by al-Hadaf website which is affiliated with the PFLP Jarrar affirmed that her Front will adopt political measures against the security coordination between the PA and Israel in the West Bank.
The PA security forces quelled on Sunday a demonstration condemning the PA trial held against martyr Basel al-Araj and other five youths detained in Israeli jails. They assaulted the protesters including Araj’s father the Islamic Jihad leader Sheikh Khader Adnan as well as a group of girls women journalists and photographers.
Earlier on Monday the PFLP held the PA and the leaders of its security forces responsible for the attack on the marchers who were protesting the trial held against martyr Basel al-Araj and the other youths.
The PFLP described targeting the protesters with sound and pepper bombs tear gas canisters and batons as “an unforgivable crime that should not go unnoticed” calling for punishing all those involved.
