Friday 13-April-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Palestinian Journalists bloc condemned the continued Israeli aggressions against Palestinian journalists calling for putting an end to Israeli excesses and protection of Palestinian journalists.

The bloc said in a statement published on Thursday the IOF flagrantly violates International laws pertaining to freedom of expression.

The bloc also said that Osaid al-Maqdesi a Palestinian journalist from Bethlehem was arrested by the IOF and is still detained at the Maskoubeyya interrogation center. Furthermore Rami al-Faqih Al-Quds television correspondent and Eyad Hamad a camera man working for the associated press were both wounded a week ago by shrapnel from sound bombs fired by the IOF to disperse a women demonstration at the Qalandia IOF roadblock.

The bloc added in its statement that the IOF continued to violate article 19 of the International declaration of human rights of 1948 article 19 of the International convention on civil and political rights of 1966 and article 79 of the first protocol additional to the Geneva Convention of 1949.

The PJB called on human rights organizations to intervene to protect Palestinian journalists against continued IOF aggressions.
