PJB deprecates IOF aggressions on Palestinian journalists

Monday 20-November-2006

Gaza – Tens of journalists media men and Palestinian officials and lawmakers have participated Sunday in a massive rally in Gaza city against the deliberate IOF troops’ brutal aggressions on Palestinian journalists.

The rally was organized by the Palestinian journalist bloc (PJB) in solidarity with Palestinian journalists wounded with IOF troops’ bullets while covering the massacre in Beit Hanun city at the hands of those troops.

The bloc urged the international community and human rights and legal organizations to support and protect the Palestinian journalists and media men of such Israeli assaults.

Emad Al-Efranji the head of the bloc went farther and asked international journalists union (IJU) to kick Israel’s representative out of it and to shield Palestinian journalists in face of Israel’s atrocities against them that aim at impeding their work in revealing the truth on its crimes against Palestinian civilians.

“Israel’s massacres against the Palestinian civilians must be unmasked before the international community. There are a lot of [tragic] stories in Palestine that need to be unveiled [before the world]” said Al-Efranji as he saluted Palestinian journalists for defying the Israeli restrictions for the sake of conveying the truth.

Spokesman of the PA government Dr. Ghazi Hamad who is a journalist by profession joined that rally affirming “What distinguishes the Palestinian people is that they unite before any event whether small or big to prove to the world that the Palestinian people are a hard number in the international equation”.

Hamad considered Palestinian journalists as “soldiers in the front line” adding that the professional media had indeed played a crucial role in unmasking Israel’s brutal policies against the Palestinian people.

Seconding Hamad’s remarks Palestinian lawmaker Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouthi pointed out that Palestinian journalists were indeed contributing to the resistance against the Israeli occupation asserting that the information front is one of the most effective fronts in confronting the Israeli occupation.
