Ahmed Bahar first deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has called for confronting Israel’s media smear campaign that targets Palestinian resistance figures.
Bahar made his remarks during his visit on Thursday along with a parliamentary delegation to the sister of Palestinian lawmaker Hasan Yousef in Gaza City to express solidarity with the family following the shameful remarks that had been made recently by its son Suhaib to the Hebrew media.
“MP Hasan Yousef is a great national icon who has spent most of his life inside Israeli jails and has always served as a safety valve for our Palestinian people” Bahar said.
The deputy speaker also described MP Yousef as “a pillar of the national unity and stability in the Palestinian arena who won the confidence and respect of the Palestinian people from all spectra.”
He expressed the PLC’s solidarity with MP Hasan Yousef and his family “whose sacrifices are the pride of all Palestinians” calling on all honorable media outlets and all citizens not to pay attention to such Israeli smear campaign which he said is aimed at assassinating Palestinian leaders politically and spiritually.
MP Hasan Yousef a noted Palestinian national figure and Hamas official had been arrested several times before by the Israeli occupation army and spent a total of about 21 years in Israeli jails mostly in administrative detention.
The Israeli occupation forces kidnaped him once again last April from his home in Beitunia town near Ramallah city and soon later an Israeli court placed him under administrative detention for six renewable months.
