PLC condemns IOF targeting of member in Gaza

Monday 21-May-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has strongly condemned the IOF troops’ attempt to kill MP Khalil A-Hayya one of the council’s members in Gaza city Sunday.

The IOF raid on Al-Hayya’s home late Sunday had reaped at least eight Palestinian lives seven of them were relatives of the legislator and wounded 20 others.

In a statement it issued and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC the PLC extended condolence to the lawmaker’s family asserting that the IOF massacre confirms the savage and brutal mentality of the Israeli occupation government and its army.

But the legislature confirmed that such IOF crimes despite their intensity wouldn’t sway the Palestinian people including the PLC members from pursuing the struggle for independence and for retrieving the usurped Palestinian people’s legal rights.

In this regard the PLC called on the Palestinian people to unite and consolidate their ranks and to continue resisting the Israeli occupation with all available means.

For his part acting PLC speaker DR. Ahmad Bahar likened the IOF crimes against the Palestinian people to the crimes of Nazis highlighting that the IOF troops had kidnapped and are still detaining 41 Palestinian MPs almost all of them from Hamas’ parliamentary bloc since last year.

The PA unity government also deprecated the targeting of Al-Hayya’s home urging Palestinian citizens to be more vigilant underling that the IOF war machinery kills Palestinian citizens without discrimination.

It also urged Palestinian resistance factions especially Hamas and Fatah Movements to set aside their internal differences and to stand united against the IOF onslaught on Gaza.

But spokesman of Hamas’ parliamentary bloc in the PLC Dr. Salah Al-Bardaweel underscored that the Movement won’t stay passive towards the clear IOF targeting of its political leaders.

He also highlighted that Al-Hayya is a duly elected Palestinian lawmaker and thus he added targeting him is something serious and couldn’t be ignored adding that the Israeli enemy wanted to send a message that it doesn’t recognize Hamas’ political presence.

Hayya had greatly contributed to and played a distinguished role in halting the internecine fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Hayya’s two brothers and five of his nephews were martyred in the IOF raid on his family’s home.
