PLC delegation attends meeting of inter-parliamentary union in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA (PIC)– The Palestinian parliamentary delegation headed by acting speaker Dr. Ahmed Bahar participated in the 120th meeting of the general assembly of the inter-parliamentary union (IPU) that opened on Sunday in Addis Ababa and in the meeting of the Arab group in the union to discuss issues in the Palestinian arena.

The meeting started with speeches by Ethiopian premier  Meles Zenawi and head of the IPU Theo-Ben Gurirab and is due to initiate its actual works on Monday.

During the special meeting held by the participating Arab parliamentary delegations in the union the UAE federal national council called for forming a committee to investigate the Israeli war on Gaza while the Omani parliament tabled a request for studying the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Dr. Bahar said that this participation was the first of its kind for the PLC pointing out that the Palestinian delegation would brief the other participating delegations about the impacts of the Israeli siege on Gaza and the Israeli policy of judaization and settlement in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank.
