PLC delegation ends weeklong Syria visit

Tuesday 17-April-2007

DAMASCUS (PIC)– A delegation of the Palestinian legislative council on Monday concluded a weeklong visit to Syria during which its members met with a number of Syrian officials and visited Palestinian refugee camps.

The delegation’s talks with Syrian parliament speaker Mahmoud Al-Abrash and foreign minister Walid Al-Moalem focused on Palestinian developments and means of boosting the Palestinian people’s steadfastness. Lifting the western-led siege on the Palestinians was also discussed.

The Palestinian MPs toured seven Palestinian refugee camps in Syria during which they held lengthy meetings with their inhabitants. The refugees welcomed the guests and expressed pride in the Palestinians steadfastness in the occupied homeland in face of the Israeli war machine and the oppressive western siege.

The lawmakers affirmed the Palestinian refugees’ sacred right of return to their homes from which they were driven out at gunpoint at the hands of armed Zionist gangs.

The visiting deputies also visited the Tanaf camp where 341 Palestinian refugees from Iraq live after fleeing that American-occupied Arab country due to continued threats to their lives. The camp is pitched in the no man’s land on the Iraqi-Syrian borders. The MPs saw for themselves the tragic living conditions of those refugees.
