PLC urges African Union to reject Israel’s observer membership

Saturday 5-February-2022

Ahmed Bahar deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has asked the African Union to take a final decision against the proposal calling for accepting the observer membership of the Israeli occupation state.

“The Palestinian people the Arab and Muslim nations and the world’s free people are awaiting an [African] decision expelling the occupation [from the Union] and severing all ties with it” Bahar said in a statement on Saturday.

He stressed the need to reject “the occupation state’s request for an observer membership in the Union in line with the values principles and will of the African nation and its peoples who view the occupation as a terrorist and racist entity.”

The lawmaker expressed his appreciation for “the remarkable political positions that were voiced by many African countries against the occupation state’s membership” describing their stances as “a reflection of the size and level of the African support for the Palestinian people and their just national cause.”
