The Executive Committee of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said the Israeli calls for dismantling the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is an attempt to cover up the Israeli crime of displacing Palestinians and expelling them out of their land and destroying and looting their properties during the Nakba in 1948.
In a statement on Wednesday evening the PLO stressed its refusal of the Israeli calls for dissolving and integrating the UNRWA into other organizations.
The PLO called on the international community to end the financial crisis UNRWA has recently been facing. It also asked the UN to take every required action in order to obligate Israel to abide by its commitments as an occupying power and halt its violations of Palestinians’ human rights.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier charged UNRWA with incitement against Israel and called for dismantling the agency and merging parts of it into the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
