PLO’s Central Council: Oslo Accord breathing its last

The Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Central Council Monday decided in its final statement that the transitional period stipulated in the agreements signed in Oslo and Washington is no longer valid.

The Central Council urged in its final statement read by chairman Salim al-Za’noun the international community to assume its responsibilities on the basis of the relevant United Nations resolutions and to work on ending the Israeli occupation and enabling the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.

The council tasked PLO’s Executive Committee with revoking recognition of Israel until it recognizes the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders and reverses the decision to annex East Jerusalem and expand settlements.

The Central Council renewed its decision to stop security coordination in all its forms and to break away from the economic dependence enshrined in the Paris Economic Agreement.

The council affirmed its rejection and condemnation of the Israeli apartheid regime which Israel is trying to perpetrate as an alternative to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

It also stressed the determination of the Palestinian people to resist the occupation by all means possible and stand on guard to the self-proclaimed Israeli state.

Al-Za’noun said that the Central Council rejects any schemes that are being circulated as part of the so-called “deal of the century” because they violate international law and seek to impose a solution that does not live up to Palestinians’ legitimate rights.

The statement called for the need to adhere to the reconciliation agreement signed in 2011 and 2017 and enable the Government of National unity to assume its responsibilities in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

It further pushed for taking all measures to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip provide them with the needed back-up rehabilitate their right to freedom of movement and access to health press ahead with reconstruction projects and step up efforts to break the siege.
