The Palestinian Prisoner Center for Studies (PPCS) has affirmed that the Israeli prisoner service had recently adpted several inhumane measures against the Palestinian women held in Hasharon jail.
The center quoted some families of those imprisoned women as saying that the administration of the Hasharon prison prevented the female inmates from breaking their fasting together and raised the prices of food stuff they are allowed to buy from the prison commissary.
The jailers also barred the female prisoners from receiving sewing items from relatives during visits and made these things available at the commissary at exorbitant prices according to the families.
The female detainees are also unable to avoid food spoilage because of the Hasharon administration’s refusal to repair the refrigerator. They are also unable to pray at the same time in their cells because of their suffering from overcrowding.
The detainees also complain about their exposure to humiliating strip search verbal abuse and maltreatment when they are transferred to courts hospitals or other detention facilities.
As a result the incarcerated women in Hasharon decided to take initial protest steps by refusing to leave their cells and rejecting meals served by jailers on Monday to pressure the prison administration to backtrack on its arbitrary measures against them according to the PPCS.
The PPCS urged the Red Cross and all concerned international organizations to urgently send their representatives to the women’s jails to visit the detainees and witness their suffering.
