PRC expresses concern over UK celebration of Balfour centenary

Tuesday 7-March-2017

The Palestinian Return Center (PRC) expressed deep concern on Tuesday regarding the news reported about the British government’s preparations to celebrate the centenary of the Balfour Declaration.

The Palestinian Center said in a message addressed to the British Prime Minister Theresa May that 100 years after the Balfour Declaration most of Palestinians are still scattered in refugee camps after they were robbed of their legitimate right of return to their homeland.

The PRC pointed out in its message that the Palestinian people have been living under the Israeli occupation for 50 years and have been deprived of their basic rights and exposed to humiliation on a daily basis at Israeli checkpoints.

Over and above it added many Palestinians became homeless recently due to the growing settlement expansion which the British Parliament lately announced illegitimate and described as an obstacle to the peace process.

The message followed an invitation sent by Theresa May to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to participate in the celebration organized in Britain to mark 100 years on the Balfour Declaration.

The PRC initiated political and popular efforts in addition to media pressure to prevent the British government from celebrating this occasion and demand its apology to the Palestinian people for a hundred years of suffering. It also launched a petition to collect signatures through the website of the British Parliament for the same purpose.

The PRC is a Palestinian organization dedicated to activating the issue of Palestinians in the diaspora and demanding their right of return. It is also considered an academic center and a media source documenting and lecturing about the information and the political activism related to the Palestinian issues especially the issue of return.
