Ibrahim Khreisheh Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva submitted on Thursday a request for Palestine’s accession to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
UNCTAD a main organ of the United Nations General Assembly works to assist the Palestinian people to prepare studies and research on the promotion of trade and development in Palestine.
UNCTAD is the only UN body that has a special unit to assist the Palestinian people. It also currently works in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) to prepare a legal study on the cost of the Israeli occupation of the territory of the State of Palestine since 1967.
Palestine also submitted this week a request for accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention and it is expected to submit one for accession to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
