GAZA (PIC)– The PA foreign ministry has condemned the Monday attack on a PA police vehicle guarding the house of Hamas’ senior political leader and former PA foreign affairs minister MP Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar describing it as “serious”.
The ministry also affirmed in a statement it issued (a copy of which was obtained by the PIC) that the attack constituted a “grave security threat and an attempt to worsen lawlessness in the Palestinian community”.
Amid this serious development the ministry urged PA security apparatuses to unmask the culprits and to bring them to justice as fast as possible asserting that the endorsed security plan in the PA-run lands should be pursued despite the incident.
At dawn Monday unknown armed men planted and detonated a bomb under the police vehicle that was securing Zahhar’s house completely destroying it.
Zahhar’s house was the target of several attacks including one by Israeli warplanes that bombed the house in 2003 killing Zahhar’s eldest son Khaled and totally destroying the building. Zahhar survived the assassination attempt.
The house was also attacked by vandal groups affiliated with Fatah faction who unleashed a number of RPGs at his home during the previous infighting inflicting heavy damage on it.
For its part Hamas Movement vowed to chase and unmask the culprits and to bring them to justice describing the perpetrators as “collaborators working for Israel’s interest”.
“This is an abhorred message from the mischievous group at a time the Palestinian people are striving hard and exerting tremendous efforts to get rid of the rampant security chaos in the Palestinian arena” said Fawzi Barhoum in reaction to the incident.
He also urged PA security apparatuses to speed up the implementation of the security plan and to work hard to unmask and prosecute the attackers.
“Palestinian resistance factions must also dissociate themselves from those criminals and should hit them with an iron fist for attempting to tamper with the Palestinian people’s security” Barhoum underlined.
