Palestinian MP Muhammad Abu Tair released

The Jerusalemite lawmaker Muhammad Abu Tair was released Tuesday morning from Israeli jails after serving out a 17-month prison sentence a rights group revealed.

The Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies affirmed the number of detained Palestinian MPs dropped to 11 following Abu Tair’s release.

Spokesman for the center Riyad al-Ashqar pointed out that Abu Tair was taken into custody on Jan. 28 2016 after raiding his home in the occupied West Bank town of Kafr Aqab and sentenced to 17 months in prison.

The 65-year-old MP has spent at least 32 years in Israeli custody in separate arrests. He was also deported from his hometown in occupied Jerusalem in 2010.

Israel has abducted seven Palestinian lawmakers since the beginning of the year al-Ashqar added saying that there are currently 11 Palestinian legislators behind Israeli bars including Fatah leader Marwan Barghouthi and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Secretary-General Ahmad Saadat.
