Palestinian calls for obliging IOA to cooperate with UN missions

Saturday 24-June-2017

The Council of Palestinian Human Rights Organizations called on the international community to oblige Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) to cooperate with the United Nations committees and missions including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 Stanley Michael Lynk.

The council condemned in a statement on Saturday the Israeli persistence in banning Michael Lynk from visiting the occupied Palestinian territories since he was appointed in 2016.

The IOA had previously banned UN investigation committees including the fact-finding mission on settlements which was formed in 2012 and the UN Independent Investigation Commission of Inquiry on the 2014 Gaza Conflict from accessing occupied Palestinian territories.

In accordance with the UN Charter Israel is obliged to allow the UN missions to access occupied Palestinian territories as missions “that may be necessary for practicing its functions and achieving its objectives”.
