RAFAH (PIC)– A Palestinian woman on Sunday died at the Egyptian side of the Rafah terminal after being stranded along with thousands of Palestinians for several weeks when Israel forced the closure of the only crossing linking the Gaza Strip to the outside world in the wake of Hamas’s control of the Strip.
Witnesses and medical sources said that Taghrid Abed 30 had left for treatment of cancer in Egypt and returned almost three weeks ago only to find the terminal closed.
Taghrid a mother of five children was held in harsh conditions on the borders which worsened her health condition especially in the prevailing very hot weather amidst thousands others waiting for the terminal to be opened to return to their homes.
Relatives of the deceased appealed to all concerned parties and to human rights organizations to allow the entry of Taghrid’s body to be buried in her hometown in Jabalia north of Gaza city.
Another citizen in Gaza from Azer family said that his mother died at the same crossing a week ago and her body was still held there.
