Palestinian child wounded by IOF gunfire in al-Khalil

Saturday 17-October-2020

A13-year-old child and a young man were injured by rubber bullets fired by Israeli soldiers during clashes in Bab Al-Zawiya area in al-Khalil the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced.

Clashes broke out on Friday afternoon between Palestinian citizens and Israeli occupation forces (IOF) near the closed Al-Shuhada street checkpoint in the Bab Al-Zawiya area in the center of al-Khalil in the West Bank.

Local sources reported that the IOF soldiers climbed on top of several houses in the Bab Al-Zawiya area and fired rubber-coated bullets stun grenades and teargas canisters towards the Palestinian citizens injuring the child and the youth.

IOF also arrested a Palestinian boy before tying him up and taking him to an unknown destination in one of the army jeeps.

The sources indicated that the Palestinian youths set fire to rubber tires and threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the Israeli soldiers.

Bab Al-Zawiya Square is located at the main center of al-Khalil city and is surrounded by many military bases and settlement outposts.

For 25 years the occupation authorities have been implementing a separation policy in the center of al-Khalil city aimed at enabling Israeli settlers to live in the center of an overcrowded Palestinian city.

Al-Khalil suffers from the presence of more than fifty settlement outposts in which about thirty thousand Jewish settlers live.

IOF arrested on Friday evening three Palestinian workers in the vicinity of the Apartheid Wall near Muqbil village north of Jenin on their way back from the 1948 occupied land.

Eyewitnesses reported that IOF soldiers set up an ambush for the Palestinian workers before arresting the three and took them to an unknown destination.

The occupation authorities prevent workers from entering through the border crossings due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hundreds of workers are forced to take bypass roads and pass through small holes in the Apartheid Wall.

Workers are subjected to harassment and persecution by the IOF soldiers while they try to access their workplaces.

In recent weeks Israeli media published more than one video of soldiers abusing workers and stepping on their heads.

The Apartheid Wall which the Israeli occupation began constructing in 2004 destroyed large areas of agricultural land in the West Bank and confiscated 164780 dunums.

The Wall violates the basic rights of nearly a million Palestinians forcing thousands of them to obtain special permits from the occupation forces to allow them to continue living and moving between their homes and their lands.

The Wall also affected the educational process negatively. Many students and teachers were systematically denied access to their schools.
