Palestinian civilian killed at the hands of IOF soldiers

Thursday 1-February-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– A Palestinian young man was killed on Thursday at the hands of IOF troops manning the Qalandia roadblock north of occupied Jerusalem without any justification according to Palestinian sources.

They said that the soldiers fired at Taha Mohammed a resident of eastern Jerusalem while passing near that block at 4 am local time.

The soldiers claimed that Taha had approached the security fence near the road barrier which prompted their shooting.

In the Gaza Strip IOF soldiers stationed north of the Beit Hanun (Erez) crossing opened their machineguns at a group of Palestinian citizens in Beit Hanun city wounding one of them.

Locals said that Talal Ghaban 30 was hit in the firing describing his injuries as moderate.

In a related development the Quds Press reported that 14 Palestinians were killed at the hands of Israeli occupation forces in the course of the past month of January.

The agency said that the number of Palestinian martyrs in the Aqsa intifada which erupted in late September 2000 had thus risen to 4566. It added that nine of those were killed in the West Bank while five were murdered in the Gaza Strip including the commando that blasted himself in the Eilat human bombing raid.

It further noted that one of them was a child less than 18 years old and three were killed in assassination operations in the West Bank. It also pointed out that a Palestinian prisoner Jamal Sarahin had died in Israeli detention in January as a result of the Israeli prisons authority’s deliberate medical neglect of those patients.

Meanwhile IOF troops at dawn Thursday arrested two Palestinian university students in the Jenin villages of Juba and Zabuba.

Villagers told PIC correspondent that IOF units stormed the two villages and arrested the students in the Open Quds University after storming and ransacking their family homes.
