Palestinian detainees gradually escalate their protest steps

Sunday 29-May-2022

Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli prisons on Sunday organized a sit-in in the prison yards in protest at the Israeli policy of administrative detention.

According to the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies organizing the sit-in comes as part of steps in preparation to start a mass hunger strike at the end of 2022.

The director of the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies Riad al-Ashqar said that the Israeli prison service continues to neglect the demands of the Palestinian administrative detainees which leads the Palestinian detainees to insist on organizing a mass hunger strike.

“Israel has issued more than 650 detention orders against Palestinian prisoners after the boycott of its courts since the beginning of 2022 which increased the number of Palestinian administrative detainees to more than 600 including women children deputies elderlies and patients” al-Ashqar added.

He called on the Palestinian people to intensify mass solidarity events in support of the Palestinian administrative detainees in order to expose the racist policy of administrative detention.

Earlier on Tuesday Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli prisons refused to show up for count as part of the protests against the Israeli policy of administrative detention.

Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against Palestinian activists to curb their influence.
