OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– A Jerusalemite family refused to move away from their home taken by force from them by Jewish settlers in occupied Jerusalem and are holding a 24-hour vigil on the pavement facing their home.
The armed settlers were backed by Israeli security men despite the settlers’ claim over ownership of the house was not verified.
The Qersh family said they would not budge from the area in front of the building holding the Israeli occupation police responsible for allowing the takeover of their home.
Meanwhile special envoy of the UN secretary-general Robert Serry strongly denounced Israel for allowing armed settlers to take over a building housing nine Palestinian families in Jerusalem and demanded its government to take immediate action to remove settlers from the house.
Serry described such acts as unacceptable and provocative which are taking place as the international community is making efforts to revive the peace process.
He called on Israel to comply with the international quartet’s call for avoiding provocative acts in east Jerusalem especially home demolitions and evictions.
