A group of Palestinian youths in the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon recently launched a campaign to collect medical contributions and assistance in favor of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon’s refugee camps.
Entitled “Your Donation is a Cure” the campaign is also helping to secure monetary contributions that patients need to perform their medical surgeries.
The campaign mainly aims to alleviate the tragic lives of hundreds of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon in light of the difficult economic conditions.
The initiative’s organizer Ahmed Khalil urged for mass participation in the campaign that “aims to secure medicine for patients monetary contributions for medical tests and surgeries.”
He pointed out that 30 people are in urgent need for medical surgeries at a cost exceeding 100 million Lebanese pounds in nearly a year.
“We started thinking about the initiative in light of the high unemployment and poverty rates among Palestinian refugees especially after UNRWA decreased its services to the Palestinian refugees” he said.
For his part the volunteer in the initiative Mazen Ibrahim said that “Your Donation is a Cure” initiative has really contributed to alleviating the suffering of many poor low-income Palestinian and Lebanese families who are unable to cover the necessary medicines and surgeries.
Over the past years Palestinian refugees in Lebanon have faced increasingly dire circumstances. A majority of the population have been thrust into poverty. Accessing essentials like healthcare electricity fuel food and water has become difficult.
