A Palestinian young man was shot dead at dawn Sunday after he allegedly stabbed and wounded two Israeli police officers near the Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Occupied Jerusalem.
According to eyewitnesses a police officer opened fire at the young man in Bab Hitta area before he entered the Aqsa Mosque and left him to bleed to death.
According to the Hebrew media two officers were slightly injured after a 19-year-old young man approached them in Bab Hitta at around 4:30 am pulled out a knife and stabbed them.
Footage circulated on the internet showed a police officer trampling on the young man as he was lying on the ground.
Local sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that the slain young man is Kareem al-Qawasmi from at-Tur neighborhood in the east of the Old City of Jerusalem.
Subsequently the Israeli police intensified their presence in the area and closed the Aqsa Mosque’s gates.
