Palestinian police attend first Interpol meeting

Wednesday 22-November-2017

A Palestinian police delegation on Tuesday participated for the first time in a meeting held for heads of police from the Middle East and North Africa at the Interpol headquarters in the French city of Lyon.

According to a statement by the Palestinian police the delegation was composed of four senior police officials led by director-general Hazem Attallah.

Interpol secretary-general Jurgen Stock opened the meeting with a speech welcoming the admission of Palestine as a new member of the organization.

He said that Palestine’s accession to the Interpol would contribute to strengthening the international effort to combat crime and cooperation between member states.

Palestine joined Interpol as a member state on September 27 a move strongly opposed by Israel in a vote at the international police organization’s general assembly in Beijing.
