Palestinian prisoner dies in Israeli captivity

Sunday 17-June-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) announced on Sunday that a Palestinian prisoner in his thirties had died in Afula hospital where he was transferred a week ago but would not divulge his name.

The announcement added that the prisoners was originally held in Shatta jail but was carried to hospital after his health condition deteriorated.

The prisoner is the second to die in Israeli jails within two weeks where Maher Dandan 38 was declared dead almost two weeks ago in Jalbo prison due to medical negligence.

The Palestinian popular committees issued a statement asking all legal organizations the Red Cross and the international community to immediately intervene and check the “terrorism and quelling” policy exercised by the Israeli prisons authority (IPA) against the Palestinian prisoners.

The statement said that proper medical treatment should be extended to all captives noting that the Palestinian internees were suffering from IPA “arbitrary measures” as the authority refuses to allow entry of clothes medicine and donations to those prisoners.

It said that all prisoners should be visited by doctors to certify their health conditions and to extend necessary treatment to those who need it. The statement held the IOA responsible for the lives of the prisoners and said that pressures should be exerted on the Tel Aviv government to immediately release all sick and old prisoners in particular and all Palestinian prisoners in general.
