Palestinian refugee killed in Iraq five others kidnapped

Sunday 18-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The PA ministry of refugees affairs has said that the body of a Palestinian refugee was found in a morgue in Baghdad after nine days of his abduction while five others were kidnapped in a fresh storming of Baladayat residential complex in the Iraqi capital.

Palestinians in Iraq said in a message to the ministry on Saturday that Ayman Al-Marzouki 25 was found in a morgue in Baghdad on Friday. They said that Ayman who worked as a driver was tortured before his murder at the hands of Iraqi armed militias.

Meanwhile the ministry said that five other Palestinian refugees were kidnapped over the past few days mainly from the Baladayat complex where 15000 Palestinians reside at the hands of Iraqi armed militias and interior ministry elements.

Palestinian sources said that Iraqi army troops backed by American occupation forces broke into the same complex Friday morning and searched tens of homes at the pretext of looking for “terrorists” and arms.

They said that three refugees were kidnapped in the operation and that one of them was severely beaten on his arrest.

A ministry statement had pointed out that nine Palestinians were killed in Iraq in the past month of January while a tenth died in a camp pitched at the common borders with Syria.

The statement added that the refugees were the target of 78 aggressions in that same month and that 20 Palestinians were kidnapped and only 13 were released after the intervention of international institutions.

The ministry renewed its appeal to the UN to assume its role in protecting those refugees in Iraq

It said “Palestinian refugees in Iraq are mercilessly killed displaced and persecuted at the hands of unknown armed militias which forced dozens of families to flee Baghdad to the borders with neighboring countries that did not allow them to enter”.
