Confrontations flared up on Wednesday afternoon between the students of Birzeit University and the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) during a student demonstration near Beit El checkpoint north of Ramallah.
Local sources said that IOF soldiers fired tear gas canisters at the students with no casualties reported.
The Palestinian Authority’s security services hampered the demonstration heading to Beit El checkpoint before assaulting the coordinator of the Islamic bloc and arresting another student.
In a related development dozens of students of the Modern University College staged a sit-in in front of the college in Ramallah in solidarity with the hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners.
