Palestinian women in Israeli jails suffer from harsh conditions

Tuesday 21-January-2020

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has said that the Palestinian female detainees suffer from very difficult incarceration conditions in Israeli jails.

The Commission’s lawyer who visited the detained women in Damon jail said the female prisoners complained of being detained in solitary cells under harsh condition before transferring them to another jail.

They are detained in solitary confinement for about one month in Hasharon jail before moving them to Damon jail according to the lawyer.

The prisoners also told the lawyer about their need for a female doctor and access to appropriate medical treatment especially for those having injuries or chronic medical problems.

In addition the prisoners and their families are exposed to maltreatment and humiliation at the hands of Israeli jailers during visits. They are also deprived of phoning their families and obtaining sewing and handicraft kits.

There are 41 Palestinian women in Damon jails including four administratively detained with no guilt and 18 mothers.
