Palestinian national and Islamic parties and institutions in Occupied Jerusalem have called for boycotting the Israeli municipal elections in the holy city.
In a joint statement released by these parties and institutions they reiterated their historic position on not participating as candidates or voters in the Israeli municipal elections to be held in the coming months urging the Palestinian citizens not to take part in these elections.
They stated that their position was based firstly on the principle that Jerusalem is a city occupied by Israel under international law and secondly on the national position that rejects to recognize Israel’s annexation of east Jerusalem which was occupied in 1967.
They said that the participation in the elections would be political recognition of Israel’s annexation of east of Jerusalem and would mean approving the US administration’s recognition of Occupied Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and its embassy relocation.
