Palestinians stranded for days at Cairo Airport appeal for help

Tuesday 13-February-2018

Palestinian citizens stranded for over four days at Cairo Airport have appealed to the Palestinian Authority and national factions to intervene to end their detention in passenger waiting rooms and work for their return to the Gaza Strip.

In an appeal circulated on social media websites the stranded passengers said they were suffering from difficult conditions at the airport especially with the presence of children women and elderly people who cannot withstand the cold weather.

They called on PA president Mahmoud Abbas the visiting Hamas delegation in Cairo and all factions to intervene with the Egyptian authorities to consider their suffering and allow them to return to Gaza or enter Cairo temporarily until the Rafah border crossing is reopened.

Dozens of Palestinian passengers arrived last Friday at Cairo Airport in order to enter Gaza through the Rafah crossing which was supposed to be open on that day.

The Egyptian authorities had opened the crossing on both directions last Wednesday and said it would be like that until Saturday but they closed it again on Friday afternoon for security reasons.
