Palestinians to close Bethlehem over COVID-19 spike

Governor of Bethlehem Kamel Hmeid announced Saturday a 48-hour closure on the district starting Monday after a sharp rise in coronavirus infections in the West Bank.

Hmeid said in an official statement that the measure set to start at 6:00 am Monday includes the closure of all public and private institutions and the suspension of all activities and events except those related to the health sector.

Citizens will not be allowed to enter or leave Bethlehem during this period or even leave their homes unless for emergency cases he added.

Medical centers bakeries and pharmacies can work normally.

Security barriers will be installed and police and emergency officers will be deployed in different points of Bethlehem to ensure that the citizens comply with the governor’s instructions.
