The Popular Conference for the Palestinian Diaspora is expected to kick off on February 25 in the Turkish metropolitan city of Istanbul.
Palestinian national icons and pro-Palestine activists from over 20 countries are expected to take part in the two-day conference.
The conference aims to speak up for Palestinians’ right to independence and self-determination and also the refugees’ right of return to their motherland.
It also seeks to discuss possible ways to restore Palestinians’ infringed rights and boost partnership in the decision-making process.
The list of objectives also includes attempts to develop a unified political position by the Palestinian Diaspora and to activate the role of the youth and the mass media in propping up anti-occupation activism and resistance to the Israeli occupation.
The conference is also expected to revitalize calls for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state having Jerusalem as its capital.
Head of the Palestine Forum in Europe—Al-Tawasul Zahar Birawi stressed the need to activate the role of the Palestinian Diaspora in the national liberation struggle.
Birawi called for a mass participation in the popular conference which he said represents a watershed in the Palestinian anti-occupation struggle.
