The Popular International Committee for Supporting Gaza has welcomed the recent rapprochement between Egypt and the Gaza Strip and the renewed opening of the Rafah border crossing for several days.
“Egypt is still able to impose its nationalist and pan-Arab presence in the Arab and international arenas and the Arab synergy is the most important element for the success of Egypt’s historical role” head of the committee Isam Yousef stated on Saturday.
Yousef stressed that Egypt’s support for the Palestinian people’s steadfastness in Gaza would protect its sovereignty adding that Gaza awaits another Egyptian role in ending the Palestinian division.
He hailed the agreement between the Egyptian side and the Palestinians in Gaza on regularly opening the Rafah crossing according to certain mechanisms for the movement of passengers and goods.
He expressed his belief that Egypt’s involvement in commercial and economic exchange with Gaza would serve its national interests and reduce the impacts of Israel’s blockade on Gaza.
