Prisoner Farihat on hunger strike for three days in PA jail

Saturday 29-April-2017

The family of political prisoner Izzuddin Farihat from Tulkarem has said that her son has been on hunger strike for three days in protest at his detention in a Palestinian Authority (PA) jail for 40 days with no guilt.

In press remarks a family source said Farihat’s father was prevented at the beginning of his detention by the PA intelligence from visiting him for two weeks before he was allowed to see him for only five minutes.

“When the father of Farihat visited him on April 26 2017 he was surprised at his poor health condition and his weight loss and came to know about his intention to start a hunger strike until he obtains his freedom” the source added.

Since the first days of Farihat’s detention the family has been receiving false pledges to release him.

Human rights institutions which followed up the case of Farihat affirmed that he was arrested because of his involvement in student council activities at Kadoorie University in Tulkarem.

Farihat is the representative of the “Islamic Bloc” Hamas’s student wing at the Palestine Technical (Kadoorie) University.
