Prisoner Yasser Hamduna dies in Israeli jail

Sunday 25-September-2016

JENIN (PIC)– Palestinian prisoner Yasser Hamduna was proclaimed dead on Sunday morning in an Israeli jail where he was serving a life prison term according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

Informed sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that Hamduna died after he suffered a heart failure in Ramon jail.

For its part Waed Society for Detainees and Ex-Detainees said that the administration of Ramon jail transferred the prisoner to Soroka hospital after his death affirming that he died as a result of Israeli medical neglect.

According to the PPS Hamduna had suffered several health problems in his heart since his detention in June 2003 when he was physically assaulted by soldiers from the Nahshon Battalion.

Despite his poor health condition he was not provided with appropriate medical care in the infirmary of the Ramla prison compound where he was taken several times.

In this regard the Palestinian captive movement in Israeli jails declared three days of hunger strike and mourning over the death of Hamduna.

With his death the number of Palestinians who died in Israeli jails rose to 208 prisoners. Eight others also died shortly following their release.
