Pro-Jenin marches violently suppressed in West Bank

Monday 11-April-2022

Violent clashes erupted when Israeli occupation forces (IOF) suppressed rallies in support of Jenin and its refugee camp throughout the West Bank on Sunday evening.

Two shooting incidents were meanwhile reported over the past few hours targeting an illegal Jewish settlement in Bethlehem and an IOF patrol in Jenin.

In Jenin mosques called over the loudspeakers on locals to defend and protect Jenin refugee camp following Israeli threats to the family of the Tel Aviv shooter.

Local activists also called for confronting any possible Israeli invasion of the refugee camp.

Earlier Sunday IOF soldiers failed to arrest the Tel Aviv shooter’s father after storming Jenin refugee camp in large numbers.

In the same context a massive demonstration took place in front of the home of the family of martyr Diaa Hamarsheh in the town of Ya’bad Jenin district after the occupation’s decision to demolish the family’s home.

In Nablus clashes erupted between local young men and Israeli forces at the entrance to Beita town after IOF troops suppressed a solidarity rally in support of Jenin refugee camp amid heavy firing of rubber bullets and tear-gas bombs.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society affirmed that at least four injuries were reported during the clashes.

A similar confrontation was reported in Beit Furik town east of Nablus.

In Ramallah Palestinians hit the streets and chanted slogans in support of the armed Palestinian resistance and in solidarity with the Jenin refugee camp.

The participants stressed that there is no choice but resistance to stop Israeli forces and settlers’ escalated attacks.

In al-Khalil a pro-Jenin march in Al-Fawwar refugee camp turned violent after the IOF violently suppressed local youths.

A similar solidarity march was also organized in the Ibn Rushd roundabout in the city.

In Bethlehem clashes erupted in Husan town following the funeral of the Palestinian mother who was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers.

The IOF soldiers heavily used tear-gas and sound bombs during the events.

Meanwhile dozens of Jewish settlers were deployed in large numbers at junctions leading to Nablus and blocked the roads before Palestinian vehicles.

Tension has been running high in Jenin after the IOF threatened to carry out a large military operation aiming to arrest the family of Tel Aviv’s shooter as part of the Israeli collective punishment policy.

Several Palestinian resistance attacks were reported over the past week leaving a number of Israelis dead as Israel has been intensifying and further brutalizing its assault on Palestinians. At least ten Palestinians were killed over the past few days.
