Pro-Palestinian activists in Manchester hold sit-in to support captives

Friday 14-October-2011

LONDON (PIC)– The Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB) is holding a sit in on Friday outside the BBC offices in the city of Manchester to support Palestinian hunger-strikers in Israeli occupation jails.

Palestinian captives in Israeli occupation jails started an open-ended hunger strike over two weeks ago to protest isolation policy and detention conditions in general.

Spokesman for PFB Zaher al-Birawi said that the sit-in was organised by the Palestinian community and their friends to show solidarity with Palestinian captives and their families and to call for improving the condition of their detention to meet international laws and conventions in this regard.

He added that the choice of venue was made to encourage the BBC and other western media to cover the suffering of thousands of Palestinian captives and their families as a result of the penal measures imposed by Israeli prison service. And to call on the BBC to give this sensitive issue the coverage it deserves.

The PFB in a statement on Thursday called on the Red Cross Amnesty International U.N. agencies and all freedom loving people around the world to show solidarity with the Palestinian captives and act to save them.
