Protest in front of British consulate in Istanbul against Balfour

Tuesday 7-November-2017

The Turkish Organization in Solidarity with Palestine (FIDDER) on Tuesday organized a protest against the Balfour Declaration in front of the British consulate in Istanbul with the participation of Palestinians Arabs and Turks.

The protesters asked Britain to apologize to the Palestinian people and compensate them for the tragedies caused by the Declaration over the past 100 years.

For his part the head of FIDDER organization Mohammed Msheinesh called on the Palestinian people to hold tight to their right of return asking Britain to apologize for the Balfour Declaration which has brought so much suffering to the Palestinian refugees around the world.

In a letter delivered during the protest the participants called for halting all celebrations held to mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration and demanded that Britain work to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

The letter stressed that the Balfour Declaration issued in 1917 was the direct cause to the catastrophe that plagued the Palestinian people during the British Mandate when 750000 Palestinians were displaced in the ethnic cleansing campaigns waged against them by the Zionist gangs.

The letter underlined that the British government at that time laid the foundation stone for a Jewish state in Palestine despite the fact that Palestinians constituted more than 90% of the country’s population.

The Istanbul protest was part of a series of events launched by FIDDER on the Balfour Declaration’s centenary in different Turkish cities.
