Palestinian activists on Saturday morning closed the gates of all UNRWA facilities in Nablus city in a protest step against the recent measures taken by the Agency’s administration according to the PIC reporter.
Activist Emad Shtewi asked UNRWA to reverse its decision to reduce its services to continue to provide relief and health care to the Palestinian refugees who live under dire conditions and not to subject them to any political blackmail.
Shtewi noted that a meeting will be held in the afternoon to discuss the next steps to be taken.
In recent years UNRWA has started to scale down its humanitarian services to the Palestinian refugees under the pretext that the budget is no longer sufficient and that donor countries do not fulfill their financial pledges.
Washington last week decided to withhold $65 million of the funds sent to the UN Agency in response to Palestinians’ rejection of the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Observers believe that a conspiracy is being waged against the Palestinian refugees to liquidate their issue by dropping the right of return and gradually reducing the UNRWA services.
