Qaddura: Israeli crackdowns signs of gov’t bankruptcy

Monday 2-January-2017

Head of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) Faris Qaddura dubbed the latest decisions by the Israeli cabinet to withhold the bodies of slain Palestinians as signs of bankruptcy.

According to Faris Qaddura the decisions opted for by the Israeli government to keep the bodies of slain anti-occupation activists and crackdown on Hamas captives signal a state of unparalleled impoverishment aiming to appease the Israeli public.

Qaddura added that Israeli crackdowns against Hamas captives have been recurrent. In 2014 the IOA slapped arbitrary measures to dampen the spirits of Hamas captives. Such measures included family visit-bans and psycho-physical torture.

He warned of an explosion to flare up in April following a mass-protest move by Palestinian detainees.

He added that the Israeli decisions along with Netanyahu’s dragging of his feet vis-à-vis the prisoners’ cause will stand as a stumbling block in any future negotiations over a prisoner swap deal with Hamas.
