Qaraqe: Administrative prisoners to start hunger strike in June

Wednesday 30-May-2018

Head of the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission Issa Qaraqe on Wednesday said that the Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli jails are planning to start a hunger strike in June.

Qaraqe in press statements said that the administrative detainees’ boycott of Israeli courts is still ongoing.

The detainees on 15th February started an open-ended boycott of Israeli military courts in protest at their detention without charge or trial and at the increasing number of administrative detention orders issued by the Israeli occupation authorities.

According to Palestinian human rights organizations there are 500 administrative detainees locked up in Israeli jails.

The detainees called in an earlier statement for bringing their cases to the International Criminal Court and making every possible effort at all levels to put an end to the injustice they are exposed to.

In another context Qaraqe expressed concern over the health condition of the Palestinian prisoner Hassan al-Tamimi who is being held in the intensive care unit at Shaare Zedek hospital after his health deteriorated two days ago in Ofer prison.

He pointed out that a petition had been filed for the release of al-Tamimi before his health deteriorated but the Israeli court decided to release him on the day he was taken to hospital.
