The Rafah border crossing is to remain closed on Wednesday in violation of the pledges made by the consensus government in the Egypt-brokered reconciliation deal.
No information have been given about the crossing’s scheduled opening till Tuesday night PIC reporter quoted security sources as saying.
The government did not make any real effort to push for the opening of the border crossing the sources charged.
In a statement issued shortly following the reconciliation deal the PA minister of civil affairs Hussein al-Sheikh said the “national unity government is prepared to work closely with Egyptian authorities to prepare the Rafah border crossing for operation by November 15 as specified by the 2005 Agreement.”
Rafah the main border crossing in the south of the Gaza Strip has been largely closed to Gaza’s population of two million since the ouster of the Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.
