Ramallah: Ex-detainees deprived of salaries ask Egypt to intervene

Tuesday 11-July-2017

Palestinian ex-detainees on Monday handed a letter to the Egyptian embassy in Ramallah city asking it to intervene and pressure the Palestinian Authority (PA) to backtrack on its decision to cut off their salaries.

Ex-detainee Zakariya al-Jasrawi said their letter highlighted Egypt’s good relations with the PA and its role in brokering the 2011 prisoner swap deal between the Palestinian resistance and Israel and urged it to use its influence to convince the PA to revoke its measure against them.

Jasrawi told Quds Press that the ex-detainees explained in their letter the difficult living conditions they and their families suffer from after they were deprived of their monthly payments.

Meanwhile the PA security forces prevented the ex-detainees from reaching other embassies to hand over similar letters before they had to go back to their sit-in tent in Ramallah where they have been holding a protest over their halted salaries for about 23 days.

The PA recently stopped to pay salaries to 277 ex-detainees most of them released as part of the 2011 swap deal.
